[Classweb-users] Table HV8157/2

Dear Classweb Users,

My apologies that I didn't frame my query clearly.
I have no problem with the HV8157/2 Table having both a division 'By region
or state, A-Z' and a 'By city, A-Z'. Of course this is a long-standing
design. My query was really directed at the business of having two Cutter
numbers when dealing with 'By region or state' and the main entry
represented by only an extra digit, whereas with 'By city' the first cutter
goes straight to the 'city' and the main entry gets a *whole* Cutter number.
This creates some amount of confusion amongst our shelflisters. They always
have to come back to the cataloguer to check, on account of there being
nowhere to store such information for them in a fully-automated library
system, as we were able to do with the card shelflist.

Cheers,
Philip.

If the Dersham version does not provide the two breakdowns, it does not
reflect Library of Congress practice.

countries) under Local / By region or state, A-Z to have .A5A-.A5Z *but* By
city, A-Z is simply .A6-.Z? The Dershem printed version of the schedule has
.A5-.Z adjacent to "Local" whereas Classweb does not. I believe there is no
need for the separate .A5 cutter number, .A5-.Z is sufficient.
