This provision for separate local breakdowns at the state or regional level and at the city level goes back as far as the 1950 edition of Class H. If the Dersham version does not provide the two breakdowns, it does not reflect Library of Congress practice.

Dear Classweb Users,
Just wondering why it is necessary in Table HV8157/2 (for 1 number countries) under Local / By region or state, A-Z to have .A5A-.A5Z *but* By city, A-Z is simply .A6-.Z? The Dershem printed version of the schedule has .A5-.Z adjacent to "Local" whereas Classweb does not. I believe there is no need for the separate .A5 cutter number, .A5-.Z is sufficient.
Cheers,
Philip.
