I don't know the history of this particular number, but in decades past the editorial policy was to leave the parenthesized numbers in the schedule only through the next printed edition of the schedule after the cancellation.  In subsequent editions the number disappeared entirely.  Those numbers do not appear in ClassWeb.

Normally you would expect obsolete class numbers between (parentheses) in ClassWeb, which is not the case on this point.

PT5183 is a former class number. The schedule has been changed, but older records won't necessarily be reclassed to the newer number (we have one title in our collection, published back in 1966.)

The thing is that we discovered that in WorldCat and in the LC-catalog quite a few bibrecords have been provided with PT5183 (and have been downloaded to our local ILS).
