The Library of Congress follows the rule given in the Classification and Shelflisting Manual, F 320, sec. 1.b.(1):

	"Assign the class number that corresponds to the earliest period on which the work focuses when the work in hand covers several of the time spans listed under the topic in question."

It is not unusual for time spans that are provided in the classification schedules to differ from period subdivisions that have been established under subject headings.

BM176 only takes us to 70 A.D.  Yet some books that discuss early Judaism, use the chrononological subdiv.: 586 B.C.-210 A.D. There doesn't seem to be a class for that longer stretch for the history of Judaism. Time to put a scope note in BM176?  Or subdivide it by decimals.
Anyway, the class does not match the chronological subdiv.
