[Classweb-users] PC3680.I9 -- Incorrect cutter?

Ivory Coast is the earlier form of the heading that is now established as Cote d'Ivoire. This Cutter was established at the time that Ivory Coast was the valid heading. LCC often retains earlier Cutter numbers even after a name change occurs in order to avoid having to reclassify previously cataloged titles.

G 300 in the shelflisting manual states that the Cutter numbers listed there are used only when there is no conflict with existing entries in the shelflist or classification shedules.

Shouldn't the cutter for this class (Dialects of France -- By Region or
province -- French in foreign parts) be C85, for Cote d'Ivoire (rather
than Ivory Coast), since that is the geographic cutter given in the LC
shelflisting manual, (and also since Cote d'Ivoire, not Ivory Coast, is
the authorized heading)?
